Spotlight: Far Afield, Siberian Express Collection
For AW20, Far Afield introduce their latest collection, ‘Siberian Express’ a contemporary menswear collection where the brand take inspiration from the iconic Trans Siberian Express and the halcyon days of Soviet Union design.
Shop the look: Crosby Cardigan, Maroon
Using an industrial colour palette of greys and darker shades, the collection displays a selection of subtle motifs associated with the landscapes, nature and cities on the journey from West to East.
Print inspiration comes from a range of places. The sights of Moscow; the rolling Ural mountains; the elusive wildlife in the woodlands and tundra, and never forgetting the occasional train-spotter reference.
It’s not all train cabins, tea sets, and jotter books however. Art Deco of the early 1920’s is present, alongside an additional nod to the constructivism era. Vintage Soviet Union textile prints have been unearthed and reimagined, with geometric shapes and patterns heavily prominent.
Heavy wale corduroy plays a key role in the collection along with borg- fleece, featuring heavily in the tailoring, shirting, outerwear and headwear. Layering is a dominant feature, with fleece jackets meeting heavy gauge knitwear inspired by vintage Soviet knit patterns.
Always striving to use ensure an ethical supply chain from start to finish, the collection boasts cotton fabrics that are either 100% Organic or BCI certified. Insisting on only the highest quality, the best yarns and woven fabrics are used: flannels, cashmere, mohair, fine wools, corduroy, fleeces & twills.
